Barcelona and Us

It was first time to know about Catalonia from Barcelona and Real Madrid. The rivalry of both of the football club it is not about how many the championships they won but the way they think about their selves, especially Barcelona. Madrid, as capital city of Spain, it is like a center of power—Barcelona is nothing but separatist in the past. They have their own life and culture, even language, different from the center. I guess, I have read the news that some of them want to do some referendum for their future. Some of Barcelona fans around worry about this—when Catalonian people choose to be independent from Spain it means their club is over. I just surprise how it works: the person I already know well supporting others to fight for the freedom did the opposite because of the club. Dunno what happened with their brain. LoL.

But, I should think a lot after watch the movie namely Fire, I’m sorry I forget the title in Spanish, about the revenge of Carlos, a detective works for the state to deal with the separatist group. He lost his wife and his daughter—actually the daughter lost her leg—after a car bombing. He prepares everything he needs to do this, including an assistant for the daughter after his leaving to the town where the family of the separatist group, the correct is the family of the person who did the car bombing, live. It is part of Bilbao—there is Athletic Bilbao located—and the group namely ETA.

After receiving some secret information from a friend who works in the police station, he go. He meets with the wife of Eusobia, I guess. Carlos is super smart—he asks the wife to translate his novel to the local language. Carlos now has a business on security and writes some novels? A big no, yes. It is his private journal dedicated to his wife after the attack. It composed by pain, sad, guilty, angry, and others describing his deeply loss. During the business, he meets with the son of Eusobia. Carlos is shocked that the son has a down syndrome. The information excluded the son, because the police have nothing about this. Carlos ignores the feeling, the way he feels to his daughter, and go to manipulate the innocent feelings of the son. He enrolled the son to the drama class, which is could not provide by the mother due to down-syndrome she worries about, and asked the possibility to date his mother. Finally, he initiates a vacation in a very remote that even a signal of cellular phone could not reach them.

The wife knows nothing about this. The only plan she has is to provide a better life for the son. The money to feed him and no more hate to others—what her husband done send them to prison after killing of 8 (eight) persons is part of hate. She wants to make a distance with the husband for many reasons. She dislikes the way of life of his husband and the way the husband accepting the son. The son is less-expected by the father, the member of separatist group should not a down-syndrome person, and he said that it is better if the son is dead.

Carlos is on the plan. The wife is shocked after he reveals his self. He is Carlos, not Alvaro as she knows, and he will do revenge. The wife wants to delete her action if the time gives her the chance. Carlos is still on the plan: he wants to kill the wife and to make the son loss his leg as well as happened to his daughter. She begging to her to kill herself but save the son. Carlos got angry because he did the same for 12 years: I’m the actor and don’t do this to my daughter and nobody cares about this. Carlos starts to kick the legs and shoot the wife. He goes to the hospital, finally, to save the son. He thinks the revenge from the daughter’s perspective: he doesn’t need to this and the daughter need her much.

The police suggest her to sue him but she says: I will not do that. It is dangerous thing, the police argued, but she is a stubborn. The way they reconcile each other it is the way they shares the feeling of deeply loss of their beloved persons, I think.

P.S. Spain is the most destinations I want to visit especially for Cordova as the center of Islamic civilization in the past. Now, I add Barcelona for the same plan to feel their spirit about Madrid :)
